Nissen Fundoplication

The Nissen Fundoplication is a procedure in which the fundus of the stomach (the upper, floppy portion of the stomach) is wrapped completely around the lower part of the esophagus. It is considered a 360-degree wrap. This wrap recreates the stomach’s natural one-way valve that helps to prevent reflux. Patients will need to resume a mostly liquid diet for a few weeks post-surgery, and slowly advance to solid foods, as swelling subsides.

Toupet Fundoplication

A Toupet Fundoplication is a partial wrap of the stomach (usually described as a 270-degree wrap around the esophagus). This is generally used for patients who have an abnormal esophageal function and may be at higher risk for difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) after surgery.
